Badgerland Pest Control
Badgerland Pest Control is a local business that serves both commercial and residential customers. I wanted to create a branding system that felt tough, strong, efficient, reliable - and friendly. The logo is inspired by the Japanese beetle, a destructive plant pest and invasive species.
I designed a logo, mailer, door hanger, name tags, half page and quarter page print ad layouts, and a truck decal.
Process
I started with three logo and branding concepts: Highest Standards of Excellence, Home Grown Dedication, and Tough on Pests, with three logos: a badger’s head biting a cockroach, a boot print stomping an ant, and a Japanese beetle with a suggestion of a skull in its carapace.
Initially I was interested in developing the badger design, but I received feedback that it was too similar to the UW-Madison’s Bucky, and on reflection the area has so many badger logos we agreed to pivot to another design, but keep the black, red, and white colors. I revised my moodboard and collected more samples of logos for inspiration from LogoLounge, and worked on revising the Japanese beetle concept.
